Heres an idea I came up with for the next show, next year! How about having everyone caviary that comes to the show put together a basket of thing? It could be cavy related, first aid kit, cavy books, anything. Or anything you like, like cookie basket, choc basket, travel basket ( junk food, soda, nuts ect) or anything else you can think of. Then what we do is number them and give everyone that brings a basket gets to draw a number and then take that basket home! We can all add our business cards and get to know each other just a little more! So let me know what you think! Sherrie Oh my! Is my brain ever going to shut down?

We had planned on trying to have this be a double show but the timing didnt work out with the other club, we will try again for next year to make this a double. As for the youth show im not sure we have enough youth to show to put on a open and youth show, not to mention all the work it takes to put just one on! Thats something I might run past the 4hers around here and see if they might want to get with the other 4h groups and put on just a single youth show! This would be a good experiance for them all to know how much work goes into it before the show even gets here. I do like the fact that the youth show with us adults because any more it seem the youth have just as nice if not better animals and it makes me work even harder to breed and keep only the best! These kids are coming loaded for bear! The other thing I think it does is for the kids is give them a chance to talk to adult breeders about any questions they may have about breeding, grooming, health issues or anything else they may have questions about, it gives us as adults a chance to help the next gereation keep this sport (for lack of a word) going. I never mind sharing my experiance with others, young or old and in the process I learn too! This is one of the wonderful thing about doing cavies is Im really starting to see more and more families do it together and there is no better way to spend time with the whole family then to do the pigs, in my mind any ways! Any and all ideas are appreciated, thanks for taking the time to let me know how you feel and what you would like to see this is in a way everyone that shows up, their show too! Sherrie

I was thinking that the Youth get special 4-H "points" for competing in a Youth Show?? Then they win awards based on the number of "points" they have earned during the year. When the Youth and Open were combined at Cardiff there was a bit of a to-do about it since the Youth exhibitors wouldn't get their "points" I am not a 4-H Mom (maybe a 4-H Grandma some day ) so I may not have the concept correct. I totally agree that many of the Youth Exhibitors have fabulous animals and are a source of inspiration. Without the Youth Exhibitor the Fancy would not have a future.

I am not up on all the 4h stuff, I would have to ask someone who knows for sure. Most of the kids I know would rather just get the legs that go with it or the ribbons. They can still add it to their record books and that counts for the end of the year. If someone on this forum knows please tell us. I need to brush up on that for myself. This will be something to look into! Sherrie

I think that would be an awesome idea on the swap baskets! You could ask everyone who wants to be involved to bring a basket worth at least $10 and it has to have nothing but cavy stuff in it.
It would be awesome to have a double show, but if its not possible then we always help out with the Santa Barbara County Fair Benefit show in January, in Santa Maria-- purhaps we could get the 4Hers to put on a youth show there, and we could host the open show?? what do ya think Sherrie?

Sherrie You dont get "points" so to say, it just counts in your record book and if you are trying to get a bronze, gold star etc. then the more community service, events etc that you do the more chance you have at getting your star. Sheila Davis or Ruth Metzler would be the one to ask about this.
