Hi all, Im learning how to do texels--got my first one about a month ago. So I have lots of questions lol I am wondering about grooming. I have been spritzing him with water at least once a week, and checking him for matts daily and fluffing. He is bedded on wood pellets and I've been keeping his cage spotless But Im wondering if when your fluffing his curls if you should be parting him down the middle or if he needs to have curls all over. Also, should the fur on his head lay beside his ears or fall forward. I have seen both, but wondering what is the appropriate way. Also I read somewhere that you should put a detangler in their hair to help with matts, does anyone do this? if so what do ya use? My little guy seems to get hair stuck in his peep alot and then when I get it out it he seems to start matting there--any suggestions? also what is the best wood pellet bedding you have found and use? sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn

Hi,
-Texels should have minimum parting over the shoulders so don't encourage it -Fluff up the fur on the face to make it look rounder. -When the testicles descend and the coat is long enough it won't wind around the genitals anymore. He will outgrow this stage but be diligent since you don't want him ruined for breeding.
If you use a detangler it must be completely rinsed out before showing him. Personally, I only bathe a texel as a last resort as 99% of the time it ruins the coat.
I use Guardian horse pelleted bedding and I like it.

Thanks Mildred, I shoulda just emailed you =) but figured Id post here and see what everyone else does and uses so it could help everyone out.
I have been VERY diligent about him and the hair near his genitals, I check him at least 2 to 3 times a day--poor guy probably thinks Im a perv or something lol!! He is getting so curly--very cool to watch the curls come in! I have been just fluffing everything and making him look like I guess a fluff ball, so I havent been encouranging a part, but I notice looking at other pictures of texels they seemed to have a part so I was thinking maybe this is what I was supposed to do, thanks for clearing that up for me and anyone else that wanted to know =)
Where do you get the Guardian pellets? the only pellets I have found around here are woody pet (which is what I am using now), kentucy comfort (which I tried and didnt like--had a weird odor so I tossed them) and a brand called Noahs choice.
Will you be at the Ventura show? Im going to bring my little guy to show, so if you are there then you can check him out and let me know what ya think =)
thanks a bunch
